Striper day with Larry Johnson .. Spring has arrived

After the longest winter i can remember of my life and more terrible ice fishing trips than id like to admit i've been ready to set some hooks and get this season going. Fishing has been bad for me the last few weeks with the largemouth only catching 1 or 2 here or there. Waters still cold and places id like to fish will not be open until Opening day.. But yesterday morning i met Larry Johnson at 5am for a striper adventure. We found a few biters before the sun came up but nothing great so we headed down river a ways and found a great bite for about 2 hours. I was able to get 8 on weightless super flukes fished sub surface which was a blast. Probably wasted a lot of time doing that but it was worth it.

Right before the tide switched larry hooked into a good fish.. One swirl on the surface had us thinking it was a keeper and sure enough it was. His new PB 30.25 inches. Once the tide switch the action was tough to find. Plenty of fish but very few biters. Ended the day with over 140 fish between us and if I didn't mess around with other lures it could have been even higher. Thanks for a great day Larry. Already looking forward to next time.

It wont be long until these schoolies are leaving the river and the big girls will be coming in. I think its already begun but its only going to get better and better as more herring make there way in. The top water bite in the early morning is such a small window but its so worth doing it. Watching a 34-38 inch bass inhale a surface bait is the kind of moments that stay with you forever. Cant wait.
